MICHELIN Guide's Point Of View

A stone's throw from Place de Clichy, Le Cyrano harbours a history as rich as its gilded mosaics. This former brothel which went on to become a haunt of André Breton and his fellow Surrealists now thrives under the stewardship of a group of four friends. In this incredible Art Deco setting (frescoes illustrating Edmond Rostand's masterpiece, mosaics, mirrors), guests are seated at tightly packed tables. Beyond the bar, two chefs cook up a precise culinary symphony in which plants and vegetables play the leading role: a crispy tartlet marrying gorgonzola with pear and mushrooms; cubed pork belly luxuriating in a smoky broth; and for the finale, a fragrant riz au lait with black sesame. All that for prices that won't break the bank.
