Rekem, one of the oldest, most authentic villages of Belgium, is rife in nostalgia, further accentuated by the collection of Fiat 500s mustered in front of Le Philippe. This ex-post office now sports a vintage Parisian vibe, including a soundtrack of French songs and also offers a few suites above the restaurant should you wish to stay longer. Danny Vanderhoven will win you over with his distinctive spin on bistronomic classics: frog’s legs in a creamy tomato, garlic and mild red pepper sauce, or slowly simmered melt-in-the-mouth beef bourguignon served with fries cooked in beef tallow, (which is the only way they should ever be fried!). A casual mood sets the scene for consummately crafted and generously served wholesome fare.
