Previously chef at Kuno 140 in Würzburg, Daniel Schröder is already a familiar name in the region. He now runs the small-format fine dining restaurant at this charming hotel, working in tandem with Marcel Meining in the kitchen. Drawing inspiration from French cuisine, the pair use top-notch ingredients to create dishes that emanate finesse. As an example, the "kohlrabi, pear, pecan" proves to be a successful combination of textures and flavours. The five- or six-course set menu is based on the seasons and complemented by a well-curated wine list dominated by regional labels. The tastefully modern decor is inviting, and the service is friendly. Occasionally, the chef mingles with his guests as the meal draws to a close. Run by the same family for two generations, Landgasthof zum Kaffelstein has well-appointed guestrooms.
